Studying Famous Photographers

We will be studying about the life and photos of some famous photographers. We will do research in books and on the internet.
Asking questions can lead to an understanding of the significance of the photos. 1. Why did he or she become a photographers? 2. Analyze the composition of one photograph? 3. What appeals to you about these photographs 4. Who did he/she work for? How does that influence their work? 5. What seems to interest your photographer? Why? 6. How would you describe the style of the photos?

You can do amazing things with photoshop. Go to this web site and create from scratch one of the projects. Follow the instructions carefully.

Perspective

Perspective was a great advance during the Renaissance. Da Vinci was able to make people look"real". During the Middle Ages painings tended to look out of proportion and did not use perspective.

Good Composition

There are a few guidelines that help to create good pictures. Think of diagonals and the rule of one third.

Find websites that offer instruction about good composition.

Ken Burns Effect

Ken Burns had changed the way documentaries are produced. He uses old photographs of the Civil War, The Jazz Age, or World War One and zooms in or pans across or zooms out to create the effect of movement. These still photos then appear to be like a video. This technique is named after him---the Ken Burns effect. You will find examples of his work or the work of others who have learned this technique in YouTube, Google Video, and TeacherTube.

We will use this technique when we use the program Photostory3.

Spring Project

Today we will begin a project that will tell a story about Spring. We will gather images from town, from the Bronx River and landscapes that show that it is still winter but spring is around the corner. Another time , probably after March 21, we will take images of spring in full bloom.
